How to use it
Pick a number down the side and a number along the top, then follow the row and column across until they meet. The shaded diagonal marks the square numbers — 1×1, 2×2, 3×3 and so on — which makes a handy landmark when scanning across a busy grid.

Questions parents ask
How do I read a multiplication chart?
Pick a number down the left side and a number along the top. Follow the row across and the column down until they meet — that square is the answer. To find 7 × 8, follow the 7 row across to the 8 column, which lands on 56.
Why are some squares shaded?
The shaded diagonal running corner to corner is where a number is multiplied by itself — 1 × 1, 2 × 2, 3 × 3 and so on. These are called square numbers, and the diagonal is a handy landmark when scanning the chart.
Can I print this chart?
Yes — use the "Print / Save as PDF" button at the top. It is formatted to fit neatly on one page of A4, whether you print it or save it as a PDF to keep on a tablet.
Why does the chart look the same on both sides of the diagonal?
Because multiplication works in either order — 6 × 9 gives the same answer as 9 × 6. Once a child notices this, they have effectively halved the number of facts they need to memorise.
